The Titleist T-Series is back in black.

Titleist recently announced that its uber-popular T-Series irons would be available for the first time in a new, more durable all-black finish made of “titanium carbide vapor.”

The finish, which is available on each of the T-Series’ four models (T100, 150, 200 and 350), provides a smudge-resistant update to Titleist’s latest iron offering for players hoping to add a different flair to their bag.

2022 Open Championship winner (and Titleist staffer) Cameron Smith was among the first to ask for the black finish on his new T-Series irons. Smith’s career-defining St. Andrews victory came with a set of T100 black irons on the bag. Smith is one of several Titleist Tour staffers who has navigated a “blended bag” with the T-Series, opting for a T100 scoring irons set to counterbalance a more forgiving T150 5-iron. The benefit of a blended set, per Titleist’s design specifications, is to deliver an iron that performs at the intersection of performance and forgiveness throughout the bag.

“We went to the 150, just a little bit more kind of CG down the bottom, helped get the ball up and stop a little bit more. For one, it doesn’t look too dissimilar, because I love the look of these [T100’s]. It was just really a flight thing for me,” Smith said. “I feel like if I mishit the 5-iron, it still gets on the front, still gives myself a putt at birdie, and then I can really send it up in the air if I’m flying some water or something on a par 5. So yeah, a really versatile club. This has been really a game changer for me in the long irons.”

Each model of T-Series Black irons features the same titanium carbide vapor finish, allowing for a seamless transition for those with blended sets. While iron finishes are certainly a point of personal preference, the smudge-resistant nature of Titleist’s finish should allow for players to use their T-Series black irons for longer before they begin to show obvious signs of wear, a major benefit for those considering the shift.

The new T-Series Black irons are currently available for pre-sale and available in retail on Friday, February 28. The T-Series black will cost $271 per iron, or $1,899 per seven-piece set.
