Aldrich Potgieter has made a habit of joining rarified air early in his golf career.

The 20-year-old South African prodigy became the second-youngest winner of The Amateur Championship in 2022 (17 years old), and last year he broke Jason Day’s mark as the youngest player ever to win on the Korn Ferry Tour (19 years, 4 months, and 11 days).

So it wasn’t a surprise that Potgieter put himself in position this week to become the 10th player since 1970 to win on the PGA Tour before turning 21. That list includes Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Seve Ballesteros, and Jordan Spieth.

Following a third-round 67 at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif., Potgieter found himself teeing off in the final group Saturday with a chance to make more history.

“Off the top of my head, it’s just a gift from God,” Potgieter said Friday when asked about his early career success. “I’ve definitely been given a talent, and I’ve worked hard my whole life to be here as well.

“It’s just definitely just from Him and to be in this position and compete on this level, it’s awesome.”

But unfortunately, Potgieter had a Sunday to forget at Torrey Pines, shooting a final-round 6-over-par 78 to finish in a tie for 15th place. Harris English outlasted the field to secure his fifth career PGA Tour victory at 8-under-par.

Here is the complete payout breakdown for this week’s Farmers Insurance Open. The total purse is $9.3 million.
