Miura Forged wedges in QPQ finish.

Miura is again adding to its line of forged wedges, now offering a black QPQ finish as a third option in addition to raw and satin.

Miura

After waiting five years between forged wedge releases, Miura has wasted no time building out a complete lineup for its 2024 Forged Series. It added a raw finish late last year to its initial satin offering, and now Miura is adding a new finish to its Forged Wedge series with the introduction of the black QPQ Finish.

So, what is QPQ? QPQ is actually a black top layer of steel that goes over the club head and wears into a patina over time. It’s the only black finish Miura uses.

“Through the years, the Miura factory has tested many different black finishes, and none of them could bring that same feel and sound that golfers expect from Miura,” said Miura marketing director Jared Cohen. “What sets the Black QPQ finish apart is its distinctiveness, achieved through a meticulous and labor-intensive process aimed at preserving the club’s hallmark Miura feel, sound and performance while staying true to the ethos of the Miura way.”

Make no mistake, there is a lot of work that goes into putting a QPQ finish on a club. Because the finish is slightly heavier than the typical satin finish on a Miura club, about three grams needs to be removed from a clubhead to ensure a QPQ-finished head and regular head perform the same way.

Other clubs Miura has used the QPQ finish on include the TC-201 and the MC-502 irons.

The Forged Series QPQ wedges still feature the “Kanji” symbol stamped on the back, a Japanese character that translates to “striving” or “noble effort.”

The original release of the Forged Series saw two grinds released, the Y and C grinds, building on the one grind that was available for Miura’s last wedge release in 2019. Both grinds will now be available in three finishes: raw, satin and QPQ.

Miura Forged Series Custom Wedge QPQ

Miura introduces new, perfectly engineered wedges, melding the best of forged feel with two unique sole grinds which will benefit all golfers in all turf conditions. These special grinds will become instant allies in the bags of golfers who take take their short games seriously and find delight in the performance of great designs.

C grind is for players who have a neutral to shallow angle of attack and like to manipulate the face around the green while the Y grind is best for players who tend to get a little steeper or want it as a bunker club.

The Forged Series Black QPQ is available in lofts ranging from 46 to 60 degrees with the 46 through 52 being offered only in the Y grind, 58 and 60 being offered only in the C grind and the 54 and 56 being available in both grinds.

Miura’s 2024 Forged Series wedges are available in the new QPQ ($385) for custom order through Fairway Jockey. The Forged Series wedges in satin and raw are also available for $320.
